Josef Mánes

Josef Manes was a frequent guest at the chateau from 1849 - 1870. He was a friend to the Silva Taroucas, a witty companion and a painting teacher in the Silva Taroucas painting endeavors. During his stay in Čechy pod Kosířem, he created a series of works - some of them by direct order from the Silva Tarouca family, such as the large portraits, which can be seen in the Great Hall of our chateau – some others for Josef Mánes’s pleasure as well as his paymasters – for example, painted stationery or painting a romantic poem about Hanselburg.
